The story takes place in the perspective of Anna. She sees her real life as one huge livestream. Melanie is her best friend since 1st grade. The set must not look life-like. It should have elements that make it look like a cheap play set.

(Anna walks onstage from the right

To the center)

ANNA

Hey guys! It’s Lady Shiro! I hope you all are having a FABulous day today because I am too with what day it is. Drum roll please. BA DUM BA BUM BA DUM. It’s the monthly challenge day!

(Melanie walks onstage with a plastic

bag)

I’ll take on any challenge you all, the Shiro squad, will give me. Last month’s challenge was a speedrun of Mari-

MELANIE

(Grabs Anna’s shoulder)

What are you doing up here?

ANNA

O-Oh! Everyone, a good friend of Lady Shiro has come to join us! It’s... Kurome!

MELANIE

You don’t have to call me Kurome, just call me by my normal name, An-

(Anna cuts Melanie off by putting her

hand on her mouth)

ANNA

Sorry Shiro squad, I have to have a private conversation with our little cute friend Kurome.

(Anna puts her hand out to the audience)

You know you can’t reveal your real name on my live streams or you’ll get recognized everywhere! So, please, just call me Lady Shiro and refer to yourself as Kurome. The names match.

MELANIE

Ok, but you’ve got to come with me. You... can’t livestream here.

ANNA

What are you talking about? This is my house.

MELANIE

ANNA

(moves to the table with letters)

MELANIE

ANNA

(does a heart symbol to the audience)

(Melanie looks at the audience confused

MELANIE

How about we open them up after we play the game? I bet the... Shiro squad is dying to see us play games.

ANNA

(salutes in a playful manner)

ANNA

(Melanie looks around the place)

So, Kurome, what challenge do you have for me? A let’s play of a weird japanese game? Though it’s gotta be really weird because the Shiro squad and I thrive on the weird. In the games we’ve been through, we interrogate a parrot for a murder case, forced into a killing game just to play a game of sudoku..., played a dating sim with an Sans like villain... uhh... oh!

(Anna picks up a game from the shelf)

Look Kurome! It’s Castle Gate!

MELANIE

(Walks over to Anna and looks at the game)

ANNA

Remember? Oh,

(Anna points the cover of the game to the

 audience)

You’ll be shocked to hear this Shiro Squad but Kurome and I used to play Castle semi-colon Gate a lot as kids

MELANIE

Man, I wonder how long it’s been since we last played it.

ANNA

Well, since you’re a special guest today, why don’t we forget the challenge and play this together?

MELANIE

Oh, wait, how about we eat something first?

(Melanie picks up the game from Anna’s

hands and puts it down somewhere)

ANNA

(whining)

But you said we should play a game first so that we wouldn’t keep the Shiro squad waiting!

MElANIE

Food is important. The... Shiro squad would want you to eat before playing.

(Anna puts herself in an over exaggerated

thinking position)

ANNA

Hmmm... Ooooh, I know what you mean. You want me do to a food challenge! I haven’t done the ghost pepper challenge, how about that?

ANNA

(moves to look away from Melanie

That was... weird. Sorry about that Shiro squad. But, as we wait for our friend Kurome to join, we’ll open the letters right now!

         (Anna holds up a letter with a picture

   of skull. She starts opening it)

(Anna scratches her wrist while holding

the paper with the other hand)

Moving on, “Dear Lady Shiro. You are an awful person that deserves to burn.” I-I see, a hater. Let’s see the other silly childish things he wrote. “No one liked you from the very beginning.”

(Anna breathes slowly and deeply. She

scratches her wrist more)

Door. She slowly turns the knob and

slowly pulls the door open. Anna looks

at Melanie and gives a sigh.)

ANNA

(looking down)

MELANIE

Anna, you're not live streaming. Stop talking like that.

ANNA

(fast talking)

They just looked at you like a idol of worship instead of a person. They haven’t talked to you one on one. They haven’t seen the imperfections you have and embraced them. They didn’t miss half of their 4th grade field trip because you had to get medical treatment from eating some spicy Gumbo. I did but I don’t hate you for it. Because I know you’re a person like everyone else. You have flaws but you make up for it when it counts. You were there at the nurse’s office after one of the stupid boys gave me a severe allergic reaction during 3rd grade Field day. You were there with a shoulder to cry on when Jessica dumped me while everyone was comforting her instead.

(Melanie pulls Anna out of the hug

She puts her hands on Anna’s shoulder

and looks her straight in the eyes)

Well, I’m here for you when they won’t be. You said you didn’t do it and I believe that you didn’t do it. Now, can you turn off your livestream and be here for me in this reality?

(Anna shifts her head down and

takes a deep breath. She lifts her

head back up to Melanie and closes

her eyes.)

ANNA

This is Lady Shiro, signing off today. I’ll see you all... never.

MELANIE

Good

(Melanie get up and offers Anna a

hand)

Now, how about we finally get some hamburgers? I came back because I forgot my wallet.

ANNA

(takes Melanie’s hand)

Count me in. The hospital food sucked.

(Anna gets up. Melanie grabs her wallet.
